Valparai Places to Visit GRASS HILLS NATIONAL PARK : It is an ideal place for trekking from Chinnar via Eravikulam national park of Munnar (Kerala) to konalar kudil of Grass Hills. Grass Hills National Park is a protected area in the Western Ghats, India, and a part of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, forming its boundary with Eravikulam National Park in neighbouring Kerala state. The landscape is a combination of peaks and high plateaus above 2000m MSL composed of montane shola-grassland ecosystem that is unique to the higher ranges of the Western Ghats of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Valparai Places to Visit SHOLAYAR DAM : Sholayar Dam – It is the second deepest dam of Asia. Situated at a distance of 30 Kms, from Valparai. An active tourist spot found always busy. Believed to be the second highest dam of Asia Sholayar must be on the don’t-miss category of your list. The dam and its surroundings are perfect examples of the term ‘majesty’. Upper Sholayar or Upper Sholayar Dam (சோழையார் Shozhaiyaar) is situated 20 km (12 mi) from Valparai, a hill station in theAnaimalai Hills of the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu India. A part of the hydroelectric project of Tamil Nadu, special permission is required to visit the dam. Sholayar dam is 30 kms from Valparai town. Entry to the dam is restricted and tourists can view it only from a distance. This dam is constructed in Chalakudy River. The catchment area of the dam is spread across to several kilometers and will be a memorable travel along the catchment area enroute to dam. The mesmerizing Athirampalli falls is just 60kms away from Sholayar Dam.
Valparai Places to Visit ALIYAR DAM : Aliyar Reservoir is a 6.48 km2 (2.5 sq mi) reservoir located near Pollachi town in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, South India. The dam is located in the foothills of Valparai, in the Anamalai Hills of the Western Ghats. It is about 65 kilometers (40 mi) from Coimbatore. The dam offers some ideal getaways including a park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation for visitors enjoyment. The scenery is beautiful, with mountains surrounding three quarters of the reservoir. Boating is also available.
Valparai Places to Visit BALAJI TEMPLE : Balaji temple is owned by the Peria Karamalai tea Industries. Situated in Karamalai. Very famous beautiful temple. Situated at a distance of 10kms from Valparai. This temple is covered by mist most of the time and experiences much more cooler weather than the rest of Valparai, due to high-altitude. Poojas are performed regularly, similar to that of Tirupati lord Venkateswara temple. It would be a great experience to sit on the temple’s marble floor, feel 360° of chillness and the silence of nature. A children’s park and a garden are also located adjacent to the temple. It is a must visit place in Valparai.
Valparai Places to Visit NALLAMUDI POONJOLAI VIEW POINT : Nallamudi Poonjolai Viewpoint is located in one of the private tea estates, Nallamudi estate. It is located 15 km from Valparai. Nallamudi valley view can be reached thorough a gate in the tea garden. One must walk for about 1 km inside this estate to reach this viewpoint. On your way, you may see fresh elephant dung, pugmarks & droppings of leopards and bears that visit here regularly at nights. Nallamudi Poonjolai offers an excellent view of Anaimudi peak (the tallest peak in south India located in Rajamalai National Park near Munnar), several waterfalls, tribal settlements and a valley that is over 1000 feet deep.
Valparai Places to Visit LOAM’S VIEW POINT : Loam’s view point is a beautiful viewpoint at an elevation of 780m above the sea level located in the Anamalai Hills of the Western Ghats, in India. It’s situated in the 9th hairpin bend towards Valparai from Pollachi on the Valparai Ghat Road. The road is quite risky and prone to accidents. You have to be extra careful while passing through the twists and turns that are abundant on the road. The viewpoint is located in the asphalted State Highway 78 road, a road linking Pollachi and Valparai. The road is all though mountain range with 40 hairpin bends and some crazy curves. The view point is named after Mr. Loam, a British general officer who was appointed to lay this road way back in 1886.

Valparai Places to Visit LOWER NIRAR : Lower Nirar, Travel 16 kilometres from Valparai, a small hill station in Kodaikanal and come across the Nirar Dam. This dam is a part of hydroelectric power project, which is undertaken to power industries and homes in these plains. The dam is significant for irrigation. It also supplies water to various areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Tourists visiting Valparai are mostly charmed by three dams built in this area: Nirar Dam, and Aliyar Dam, and Sholayar Dam. Nirar dam was built in the 60’s. The Government of Kamaraj constructed it. Best Time to Visit January to May and October to November are the best months to visit Valparai and its dams..
Valparai Places to Visit CHITTI VINAYAGAR TEMPLE : Chitti Vinayagar Temple or Sithi Vinayagar Temple is situated about 10 km to the south of Valparai. Jayashree Tea Industries is managing this temple. The presiding Vinayagar deity has been carved out of a single granite block. This temple had been constructed similar to Siddhi Vinayak temple at Mumbai.

Wind mills situated on the plains can be a feast to the eyes. This Valley is situated near Waterfalls Estate On the way to Valparai from Pollachi after 27th hairpin bend.
